【Title】Mechanomaterials Design for Stretchable Electronics

Time:  10:00-12:00 am, Mar.15th,2018

Location:   New MSE Building, No. 01 Meeting Room

Abstract:Flexible electronics have drawn increasing attention and have become an attractive and fashionable topic due to their potential to bring forth yet another revolution in the human way of life. According to IDTechEx 2017, the increasingly diverse market for wearable devices will reach over $150B annually by 2027. However, most traditional materials with good electronic properties show poor sustainability in complex stress environments, which make them difficult to directly involve in flexible and stretchable device construction. In this talk, I will present our latest progress of developing mechanomaterials for stretchable and conformable electronic devices. Mechanomaterials refers to apply the principles of mechanics to the rational design of materials with smart characteristics, and emergent properties and functions. Especially, I will highlight how mechanomaterials are developed to realize stretchable sensors that can accommodate large strain and geometrical deformations, such as bending, twisting, folding, and stretching, and achieve the smart characteristics include being responsive, selective, and interactive.
