Prof. Peter J Stang from Department of Chemistry, University of Utah visited Xian Jiaotong University (XJTU) on May 9, 2018. Prof. Guang Xi, Vice President of XJTU had a meeting with Prof. Stang in Room 107 of Science Hall and an honorary Professorship awarding ceremony was held after the meeting. Mr. Changzhong HE, Director of Department of International Cooperation & Exchanges, Prof. Zhiwei SHAN, Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, and other school leaders and excellent young talents attended the meeting and the ceremony.

During the meeting, after Prof. Stang was introduced to the guests present, Prof. Xi briefly introduced history of Xi’an Jiaotong University and our develop programs. Prof. Xi pointed out that we were encountering a great opportunity of developing and we were looking forward to cooperate more closely. Prof. Stang expressed his gratitude to be an honorary Professor of XJTU and his admiration of Chinese culture，architecture，people and traditions. He pointed out that the future belonged to the young people so he would like to work closely with colleagues to make development on scientific programs. Then Prof. Xi awarded the honorary Professor certificate and the badge to Prof. Stang.

After the meeting and ceremony, Prof. Stang gave an inspiring speech on his latest research outcomings and answered questions from students.

Prof. Peter J. Stang (born 1941) is a German American chemist and distinguished Professor of chemistry at the University of Utah. He has been the editor of the Journal of the American Chemical Society(JACS) since 2002. He was elected as a foreign member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2007), a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2006), a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2002), a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
