At the invitation of Xi’an Jiaotong University, delegation from University of Manchester visited the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU-MSE) on May 9th, 2018.
First, delegation from University of Manchester visited State Key Laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials. Prof. Suzhi Li, Dr. Huajing Fang and Mr. Jiangjing Wang gave introduction to them.
Then, Prof. Wei Zhang give a detailed introduction about MSE including research directions & achievements, international development, student cultivation and exchange programs, etc. Meanwhile, Prof. Professor Gary Fuller and Dr Dirk Engelberg introduced the School of Physics and Astronomy and School of Materials.
Bilateral representatives talked about further collaborations on research and students exchange projects. We all believe that this visit will serve as a seed to obtain a bigger cooperation between Xi’an Jiaotong University and The University of Manchester.
Gary Fuller: Professor of Astrophysics at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics (JBCA) in the School of Physics and Astronomy. Gary’s research interests include the observational study of star formation, particularly at radio to submillimetre wavelengths, and developing millimetre/submillimeter instrumentation. He has published over 220 papers on astrophysics and instrumentation. He has supervised over 20 PhD students including co-supervising PhD students at institutions outside the UK.
Dr Dirk Engelberg:Deputy Director of the Materials Performance Centre (MPC), an internationally recognized centre on nuclear materials research, with 70-80 PhD-students/PostDocs/Academics. He has >15 years experience in energy-related projects, and is leading the China General Nuclear (CGN)/UoManchester Joint Research Centre (JRC) collaboration.
