American Society of Metals (ASM International) officially announced the new ASM Fellows on 10 Oct 2017. Prof. Li Chang-Jiu from School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University was elected as a new ASM fellow, together with 17 other new fellows. ASM International was founded in 1913 with a purpose to help researchers in the field of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). ASM has over 30,000 members from all over the world. ASM International established the Fellow title to honor and reward for the individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of MSE. One in thousands of these members can receive this title each year; therefore this title is highly recognized in the community.
Prof. Li Chang-Jiu was graduated from Department of mechanical engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong university in 1982. He received his master’s and Ph.D degree from Osaka University in 1986 and 1989 respectively and did the postdoctoral research with the collaboration of Osaka University and Tocalo company in Japan, Kinki high-energy processes Technology Research Institute between 1989 and 1992. He joined Xi’an Jiaotong University in Sep 1992 as a professor and after one year he became a Ph.D tutor.
Prof. Li Chang-Jiu works on deposition mechanism of thermal spraying coatings, characterization of coating structure and properties and application technology of coatings. He was also designated for Cross-Century Talent Program of Ministry of Education in 1994 and won The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2007. He was selected as an academic leader for Changjiang Scholars innovation team of Ministry of Education in 2009. In the same year, he won the title of National Model Teacher. Prof. Li has published more than 270 papers in international academic journals, over 70 ones in domestic academic journals and almost 200 international Conference Papers with 4100 SCI citations. He also acquired over 20 National Innovation Patents. Prof. Li has obtained First class of Science and Technology Award of Shaanxi, Second class of National Natural Science Award nominated by Ministry of education and the second class of National Natural Science Award of 2008. Prof. Li served as Chairman of Organizing Committee in International Thermal Spray Conference in 2007 and 2016; he served as a President in Asian Thermal Spraying Conference of 2009 and 2015. He is also the Associate Editor of Journal Thermal Spray Technology which is the only SCI international Journal in the field of thermal spraying.
