Recently, Shaanxi Engineering Research Center of Magnesium Based New Materials, Shaanxi Magnesium Based New Material Pilot-base and Xi 'an Jiaotong University Undergraduate Practice Education Base (One Center and Two Bases) were unveiled for construction in Fugu County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, China，the world's largest magnesium producing area. The first production line of high-quality magnesium has been put into operation with annual output of over 1,000 tons in China，supported by the scientific research team in Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU).

The operation of this great production line is inseparable from the efforts of Prof. Zhiwei Shan’s team from XJTU (school of Materials Science and Engineering, MSE). With continues scientific research and exploration in the last eight years，the research team has solved the problem of low-cost large-scale production of high-quality magnesium. The qualified rate of high-quality magnesium has increased from less than 1% to more than 90%.
